A company&#8217;s balance sheet includes energy and heating consumption, mobility and transport, waste and office automation, all converted into CO2 equivalents\u201d <strong> (<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.climate-services.ch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Climate Services<\/a><strong>).<\/strong> <\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But how do you carry out this assessment?<\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let&#8217;s take a simple example: if I consume 1000 kWh, and I want to know the carbon impact of this consumption, I simply multiply these 1000 kWh by 128g of Co2. This gives me an impact of 128kg of Co2. Now that&#8217;s simple! Getting the 128g figure is more complicated \ud83d\ude42 To arrive at this figure, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bafu.admin.ch\/bafu\/fr\/home\/themes\/climat\/questions-reponses.html#1716111390\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the FOEN<\/a> compiled numerous studies.     <\/p><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For your company, there&#8217;s no need to worry about this: carbon assessment tools integrate these <strong>emission factors<\/strong>, which are regularly updated.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-fd3a74d elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"fd3a74d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Why establish a corporate carbon footprint?\n\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a7e757c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"a7e757c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Doing a carbon footprint, in itself, doesn&#8217;t do much. But it is essential, because <strong>it&#8217;s the basis for reducing your GHG emissions.<\/strong> <\/p><p>In 2019, Helvetians emitted almost <a href=\"https:\/\/www.myclimate.org\/fr\/sinformer\/faq\/faq-detail\/qui-produit-du-co2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">14.4 tonnes of CO\u2082 per person per year<\/a>, which is huge considering that to effectively slow climate change, each person would need to generate a maximum of 2 tonnes of CO\u2082 emissions each year. Switzerland, all the cantons, companies, individuals &#8211; everyone has a role to play in reducing these figures. <\/p><p id=\"isPasted\">Firstly, at international level, a majority of countries &#8211; including Switzerland, of course &#8211; have signed the Paris Agreement. <a href=\"https:\/\/unfccc.int\/fr\/processus-et-reunions\/l-accord-de-paris\/l-accord-de-paris\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">This agreement<\/a> calls on signatory countries to <strong>limit global warming<\/strong> to well below 2, <strong>preferably 1.5 degrees Celsius<\/strong>, above pre-industrial levels. To achieve this long-term temperature objective, countries are aiming to reach the global peak in greenhouse gas emissions as quickly as possible, in order to achieve a climate-neutral world by mid-century. <\/p><p>At national level, the Swiss Confederation has adopted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bafu.admin.ch\/bafu\/fr\/home\/themes\/climat\/dossiers\/protection-du-climat-et-loi-sur-le-co2.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the CO\u2082 Act<\/a>, which aims to achieve a <strong>halving of its CO\u2082 emissions<\/strong> by 2030. You can <strong>follow the evolution of <\/strong>this and other climate indicators on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bfs.admin.ch\/bfs\/fr\/home\/statistiken\/nachhaltige-entwicklung\/monet-2030\/schluesselindikatoren.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MONET 2030<\/a> page. <\/p><p>At cantonal level, many cantons have <a href=\"https:\/\/monplanclimat.fr.ch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ambitious climate plans<\/a>. The Geneva Accord, for example, defines a &#8220;strategy for <strong>adapting to climate change<\/strong> and <strong>reducing greenhouse gas emissions<\/strong> by 60% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels, and achieving <strong>carbon neutrality by 2050 at<\/strong> the <g id=\"gid_4\">latest<\/g>. &#8220;.  <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-436cd43 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"436cd43\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>As reported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rts.ch\/info\/economie\/12433663-les-grandes-entreprises-devront-reveler-leur-impact-environnemental.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RTS <\/a>: &#8220;From 2024, major Swiss companies will have to submit an annual climate report. Last week, the Federal Council laid down the broad outlines of this project, which is proving to be both popular and critical. [&#8230;] In this document, the company should highlight the financial risk that climate change represents for its business. It will also have to <strong>detail the impact of its activity on the climate or the environment.<\/strong>    <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f01efce elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"f01efce\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">How do you assess your company's carbon footprint?\n\n<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3231cc9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3231cc9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>To carry out this assessment, the ISO 14064 standard must be followed. This standard defines the requirements for calculating, quantifying, reporting and verifying greenhouse gas emissions.<br\/>Several tools are available for making this calculation: free tools such as the Good Planet Foundation&#8217;s simulator for companies, simplified tools that are free of charge, and comprehensive tools for which a fee is charged, &nbsp;<span style=\"font-size: 18px;\">such as the Climate Services platform. Many consultants also offer to carry out carbon assessments for companies. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Once the assessment has been carried out, the most important thing is to identify the actions to be taken to reduce CO2 emissions. This assessment is only the first step in reducing your impact on the environment. <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7ddb5d8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"7ddb5d8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h3 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Here are the steps to follow to carry out a corporate carbon footprint:<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-438da99 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"438da99\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ol><li>Appoint a manager or team to carry out the review.<\/li><li>Collect the necessary data: it&#8217;s important to collect all relevant data concerning the company&#8217;s activities. This data can be collected from the company&#8217;s various departments, suppliers and customers. <\/li><li>Analyze the data: once all the data has been collected, it needs to be analyzed to determine the main sources of CO2 emissions.<\/li><li>Identify opportunities for improvement: once the main sources of emissions have been identified, we need to identify opportunities for improvement in order to reduce CO2 production.<\/li><li>Putting an action plan in place: Finally, we need to put in place an action plan that will enable us to achieve our emissions reduction targets. This plan must be realistic and achievable, and must take into account all relevant factors.
